5 Ways to Increase Your Emotional Intelligence
Increasing emotional intelligence makes me hopeful for our world because we can evolve, we can grow, and we can educate ourselves on experiences that are different from our own.
"What distinguishes the world's most successful leaders is emotional intelligence - or the ability to identify and monitor emotions (of their own and others.)"
Are you role modeling emotional intelligence to your colleagues? Are you taking the time to flex your EI muscles?
Some of the most important "muscles to engage" is your empathy, your emotional self-awareness, and your aptitude for teamwork.
Ways to Work-Out Your EI Muscles:
1. Listen to listen, don't listen to respond
2. Be curious - Have hard conversations
3. Don't make assumptions - Check your bias
4. Lead with your values
5. Do a random act of kindness (Send your team a note with your favorite inspirational quotes, organize virtual trivia with your co-workers, or call a colleague to hear about their day)
Flexing your EI muscles is hard. It takes time and introspective work to examine your values and biases. Sometimes you may need a little help from a coach, just like you do at a gym. Let's connect if you are ready to do the work!
